The Electro Harmonix Ripped Speaker Fuzz features an unusual control called RIP. This is easily the most exciting feature of this deliciously old-school fuzz. This control sets the level of bias which alters the entire character of the fuzz. Essentially, this controls the amount of clipping present in your low and high end. The more you turn the control clockwise, the harsher the fuzz sounds and you can hear the signal start to splutter and choke, perfect for emulating dying battery sounds. Alternatively, the more you turn the dial counter-clockwise, the smoother the gating effect sounds and the shorter the sustain.
The Ripped Speaker's Tone control also features an intuitive design. The active tone control delivers a tilt-shift type EQ. This means at furthest left, you get darker tones with a particularly pronounced bass response and reduced treble. The more clockwise you turn, the brighter the tone becomes with more emphasis on treble and high mids, but slightly less pronounced bass. This active tone section, coupled with controllable bias in the RIP control, give you all the tools necessary to sculpt your ultimate smooth fuzz tone. Whether light and fluffy or dark, intense growl, it's easy to quickly dial in whatever the situation requires.
