The Brian May Super Electric Guitar is a limited edition model, with production being restricted to 100 instruments a year, worldwide. Each model is meticulously hand-crafted to ensure the highest quality, and accurate detail, offering a prestigious guitar.
The original Red Special guitar was constructed by Brian May and his father, and its solid body was even , oak and mahogany taken from the now legendary fireplace by Brian and his father back in the mid-sixties. The new Super model doesn't quite keep to the same tradition as the original, instead it is crafted with a 2-Piece Quartersawn chambered mahogany body, along with a book-matched, quartersawn mahogany top. Players can benefit from the warm resonant tone that the chambered mahogany produces, and sounds great when amplified.
Every effort has been made to re-create the Red Special as accurately as possible, and great attention to detail has been paid to replicate the original's dimensions and technical appointments in almost every detail. Everything including body and headstock dimensions, neck profile, fingerboard radius, binding, scratchplate shapes, pickup surrounds, tremolo and electronics are all faithfully accurate to its ancestor.
The trio of Tri-sonic style single coil pickups featured on this replica model are identical re-creations of the Tri-Sonic pickups built between 1960 - 1965, using exactly the same construction and components. Like the originals, these new pickups are also wound on the same 1950's Burns winding machine, making them the most accurate modern version of this classic pickup on the market. Tri-Sonic pickups deliver a distinctive big, round sound with richer harmonic content than any other wound pickup. This trio of pickups are wired in series for increased output and a fuller signal. When more than one pickup is selecte players can achieve a humbucker-style tone, with more warmth and gain than a traditional parallel wired single-coil arrangement.
The Super maintains its classic features by including an authentic wiring scheme, switches, potentiometer and capacitor values, along with lathe-turned, aluminium control knobs. Just like the original model, the switching system is correctly mounted to an aluminium mounting plate. In addition to these replica details, the Super also includes some internal enhancements that do no take away from its authentic details. These approved enhancements include shielding under the entire scratch plate surface area to reduce finger static noise and to assist in insulation from electrical and RF interference and a reinforcing plate inlaid into the guitar's body at the output jack to prevent accidental splitting damage.
"The dream of all Brian May fans has finally been realised: the Super is as genuine a recreation of the Red Special as is realistic for what is a pretty good price." Music Radar
