Key Features
High-performance dynamics processing. The Klark Teknik SQ1D 8-Channel Dual-Mode Compressor and Gate packs a huge amount of power into a solid, compact unit. Giving you multiple compression modes, accessible through the integrated 'Vintage' and 'Hard Knee' front-panel switches, the SQ1D puts you in control. Eight linkable-channels, each with dedicated controls, let you process your sound both correctively and creatively.
The SQ1D utilises Intelligent Threshold Shift gate hysteresis. This prevents false triggers and gate chatter, ensuring your signal is smooth and consistent with more decisive gate operation. This versatile device also allows you to make use of frequency-selective compression and gating. This is achieved through each channel's side-chain and selectable bandpass filters. Whether you want to bring out the natural character of a sound, or reduce resonance or sibilance, this powerful capability is invaluable in any live environment.
You can also take advantage of an additive-style Solo Bus, allowing you to monitor incoming side-chain control signals without affecting channel audio outputs. With a huge range of features and tools housed inside a robust 3U rackmount chassis, the Klark Teknik SQ1D is an excellent portable choice for any live system.

No more false-triggering of noise gates. The SQ1D's iTS (Intelligent Threshold Shift) works in conjunction with the device's Gate Hold control. It helps to reduce false triggers by automatically adjusting the gate's threshold downwards once the signal goes above your threshold setting. This stops the gate from constantly opening and closing (Gate Chatter), maintaining a smooth and consistent signal. Once your signal reaches the new temporary lower threshold that has been set by iTS, the system resets and is ready for when the gate next opens.
The SQ1D provides you with a range of options to achieve the sound you want. As well as the default RMS-sensing compression mode, this powerful dual-mode processor features a 'Vintage' switch. When selected, this allows the SQ1D to recreate the response and characteristics of older compressor designs.
The SQ1D also features a 'Hard Knee' switch, allowing you to adjust the knee response from the default Soft Knee mode. With this switch and the vintage switch inactive, the device will operate in its default RMS and Soft Knee modes. This provides you with a subtle compressor envelope with gentle responses that are the perfect choice for vocals. When you activate the Hard Knee switch in the default RMS mode, you can achieve compression that is more closely-related to limiting, offering much more aggressive attack that is well-suited to speech.
You can also use the Vintage mode with the soft knee response. This gives your compressor's envelope subtle attack and release curves with an adaptive nature for intuitive operation. The main difference in this mode is with the peak sensing. With the Vintage switch activated, harmonic overtones are increased, giving you that sought-after vintage brightness that is an excellent choice for acoustic instrumentation. With both switches activated, you can make use of the more aggressive compression with rapid control, whilst also adding interesting colouration to the lower frequencies. This is perfect for bass guitars, whilst also allowing you to utilise the SQ1D as an effective limiter when the ratio is set at its highest.
As well as multiple operating modes, each channel of the SQ1D also features a selectable bandpass filter. The filter can be used with either a wide or narrow response, giving you an extensive array of capabilities from this powerful device. When using the wide response, you can utilise frequency-selective compression, perfect for enhancing the natural characteristics of instrumentation. This is an excellent alternative to relying on huge and unnatural EQ boosts to bring out the beauty in your sound.
When using the narrow bandpass filter response, you can use the SQ1D as a versatile De-esser. The narrow response allows you to pinpoint specific frequencies such as areas of sibilance or other unwanted anomalies, and dramatically reduce them. If you utilise this same response when using the device's Gate capabilities, you can find specific frequencies that would be used for triggering the gate. This is perfect for use with drums and other percussion. Plus, with a 1/4'' balanced TRS connector as the side chain input for each channel, the SQ1D provides you with an extensive range of options to suit your needs.
With the SQ1D, multichannel operation is simple. You can quickly and easily link any number of adjacent channels on the device. When linked, all of the channels take on the same operating mode as the left-most channel. The left-most channel's settings can be used to control the parameters of each other channel within the group. You can still adjust the make-up gain and side-chain filter frequency controls for each channel individually, allowing you to create an optimised group for your situation.
