Smartgain Mode – making recording easier than ever
One of the most unique and groundbreaking features of the preamp is "Smartgain Mode". Once you start playing or singing with Smartgain Mode, the preamp will automatically adjust the levels of your microphones, so you can avoid clipping and distortion. Utilising advanced peak analysis technology, Smartgain will automatically analyse and adjust your gain to the perfect level in less than 20 seconds. It will even match and adjust the gain for all the channels at the same time, making large recording projects easier than ever before.
Detailed, warm sound with EVO mic preamps
Audio preamps have EVOlved. The EVO SP8 employs its own custom microphone preamps. The EVO circuits are specially-designed, delivering pristine sound with incredible warmth and accuracy. It provides you with 58dB of gain range, allowing you to record everything from loud vocals to softer-sounding instruments. The class-leading converters deliver a dynamic range of 112.5dB (analog to digital), with ultra-low latency performance.
The future-proof design includes a range of digital connections, providing two optical inputs and two optical outputs featuring ADAT connectivity. This makes it easy to send audio from your preamps to your host audio interface, as well as receive up to eight channels. When used at 44.1/48kHz, the SP8 requires just a single optical port for all eight channels while the second ports act as a duplicate/split. When used at 88.2/96kHz, both optical ports are required to access all eight channels. The SP8 also features a word clock input and eight dedicated line-level outputs located on the rear of the unit.
Motion UI – the powerful new control system
Building on the success of its siblings; the EVO SP8 introduces the newly developed ‘Motion’ UI system. The intuitive user preamp has been specifically designed to optimise the way you interact with your preamp. At the heart of the Motion UI is a TFT backlit LCD screen with provides a crisp, high-resolution display. Utilising cutting-edge IPS technology, the EVO SP8’s information remains legible on the screen no matter where you view the screen from.
The high-res display provides information on 'Channel Status' as well as providing full-colour metering for all your inputs and outputs. Providing instant visual feedback allows you to monitor your levels at a glance and helps to keep your workflow in motion. Controlling the preamp is made simple thanks to the simple ‘one-knob’ design. The single-knob control allows you to cycle through hardware features from a single point for ease of use.
JFET instrument inputs and 48V Phantom Power
Record instruments and vocals with ease. With the onboard JFET instrument inputs, you can plug your guitar or bass directly into the preamp. The SP8 also incorporates +48v Phantom Power so you can use studio-grade condenser microphones. The integrated Phantom Power is also switchable, allowing you to individually turn it on/off for each of the channels.
