Mahogany's sonic prowess

The JSP's shells are built with 9 plies of mahogany wood. One of the more expensive and less common tonewoods, mahogany provides strong low-end and warm, highly resonant tones that are perfect for a drum set of this size. While these drums are much smaller than the average shells, there's still more than enough flavoursome punch to make a statement in a number of genres, from bosssa nova to rock, and even latin music. How do the silent mesh heads work?

Much like the heads you'd find on a good-quality electronic drum kit, mesh drum heads are a popular choice because they retain the feel and response of a traditional drum skin, but make drastically less sound. Making them ideal for quiet practice and other low-volume applications. The bass drum and all of the toms (both rack and floor) in the Jet Set Plus Shell Pack have low-volume mesh heads attached. For the snare drum, a separate silencing pad is included. This simply rests on the top of the drum.
