As guitarist for Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, along with a career as a session player and an instrumentalist; John 5 has continually evolved his style and showed off his contrasting metal and country influences combined with a fiery technique. He has long championed the Telecaster and taken it from beyond its country roots into the field of modern rock and metal. John's solo work shows off his diverse range of influences and he has used the Telecaster to cover a multitude of genres and tonal styles.
The Squier J5 signature Telecaster provides dual humbuckers mounted to the classic single-cutaway Telecaster body shape. John has specified a thin neck profile and modern 12'' radius for smooth playability, ensuring that this guitar can cover a multitude of sounds with a comfortable playing experience. The double body-binding and classy-looking aesthetics also means this guitar will stand out from the crowd.
Modern Playability
John 5 has a huge collection of Telecaster guitars and he prefers the playability of older Fender necks. As such, the Squier J5 Telecaster features a thin "C" shaped neck which enables easy reach over all 6 strings. The fingerboard has a modern 12'' radius which is relatively flat to provide a smooth and level playing surface for the technically demanding styles of music that John is known for. The classic Telecaster single-cutaway body provides easy access to the upper frets, and ensures you'll be able to play high range solos with no barriers to the top notes.
Classic Tonewoods
The Squier J5 Telecaster is constructed with an alder body, chosen for its bright and resonant sound. The body is double-bound for a stand-out aesthetic. The J5 neck is maple for a smooth playing feel and bright sound, while the fingerboard is laurel which provides almost identical tonal and aesthetic properties to the rosewood that it replaces due to new CITES legislation.
Powerful Tones
A dual humbucker pickup arrangement takes the Telecaster beyond it's 'twangy' country guitar roots and makes it well-suited to rock and metal performance. However, roll back the volume controls and you'll find that this guitar cleans up for a more classic Telecaster tone. The pickups feature independent volume controls, so you can setup the ideal level for when you switch between the two pickups, and the ideal balance when you blend them together with pickup-selector position-2.
