Ibanez SR Series bass guitars are designed to blend smooth playing ergonomics with quality electronics and hardware, at any price-point.
The Ibanez Bass Workshop guitars are a special range, created to offer unique combinations of specifications to meet the demands of more specialised requirements.
This SRH semi-hollow bass guitar fuses the SR Series' ergonomic playing feel with a unique Bass Workshop idea; in this case, creating the sound of an upright bass instrument. This is intended to create the sound of a hollow body with the comfortable feel of a solid-body.
The SRH505F has a 55mm-thick semi-hollow body with multiple chambers to create a rich acoustic tone. The mahogany body creates a warm and resonant tonal base, while the spruce top provides a bright and nuanced sound. This combination creates an 'airy' quality of tone and the construction is highly resonant and responsive to your playing dynamics.
A 5-piece jatoba/walnut neck enhances the SRH505F's resonance and sustain, and it provides a comfortable playing-feel for long playing sessions.
The SRH505F is designed to reproduce the sound-quality of an upright bass. However, unlike the large and unwieldy acoustic instrument that it's based on, the SRH505F has incredibly smooth contours and will feel very similar to a solid-body guitar.
The 55mm-thick body has deep double-cutaways and a contoured neck joint to allow un-restricted access to the top end of the fingerboard. The neck has a thin and comfortable profile while the whole guitar has a flat matte finish to provide a smooth and tactile feel. The jatoba fingerboard provides a smooth playing surface making your left-hand glissandos and vibratos a comfortable experience.
An additional forearm contour helps your right arm sit comfortably on the guitar, while the semi-hollow design makes holding this instrument an easy prospect, both sat-down or stood-up. If you want the acoustic bass sound but don’t want to adapt to an acoustic bass proportion, the SRH505F is the perfect compromise.
The SRH505F incorporates an AeroSilk pickup into the bridge. This is designed to work with D'Addario ECB81 flat wound strings to create the sense of "air" that is characteristic of an acoustic upright bass. The pickup also offers independent string volume adjustments, letting you create the perfect balance across the whole instrument. The bridge has a narrower string-spacing, designed to accommodate 5-strings and giving you easier string-crossing capability.
