The original Silvertone 1449 Electric Guitar became a go-to starter guitar for aspiring musicians, not just for the guitar itself, but for the famous amplifier built into the case. Moving into the 1970s, Silvertone fell out of style to more visually simplistic guitars, but the return came when garage rock bands such as The White Stripes and The Black Keys began playing similarly retro instruments. Later, the vintage Silvertones sold themselves to the likes of Bon Iver, Beck, and Mark Knopfler. Now, the reissue brings a new version ready to influence a new breed of modern guitarists.
The double cut, angular outskirt with an oversized pick guard is one that will turn heads for all the right reasons, and is identical to the original. The high colour contrast with the intricate silver flake gives the Silvertone 1449 reissue a vintage vibe. As prominent as the shape is, it doesn't interrupt the playability, so your playing will get as much attention as your guitar's design.
One of the most influential features of the original Silvertone 1449 was the pickups’ single coil twang and spring. The tone was easily recognisable, and sought after by many blues and country artists, whilst the lipstick shape pushed forward the drive in. The reissue has identical replica pickups to the originals, so the crunchy, high signal sound is accessible to a whole new generation.
As brilliant as Silvertone guitars were, they lost favour for their inconsistent fretwork and necks. This reissue has resolved this problem with a modern C neck shape, and an all-round more reliable build quality to ensure your guitar plays well. The body is Mahogany whilst the top is Maple to keep the tone deep and rich, with a twang at the top end for extra flare. The 1449 reissue also features a modernised, fully adjustable bridge to supply a thick, resonant tone.
