A dynamic processing tool unlike any other
An expander plugin is a crucial tool in the realm of music production and mixing. In simple terms, it's designed to increase the dynamic range of an audio signal. By expanding this range, an expander plugin allows for greater contrast between loud and soft sounds, offering a more vibrant and lively audio experience.
Using an expander, you're making the quiet parts of a track even quieter, or making the loudest parts even more prominent. This process helps to minimize unwanted noise and enhance the overall clarity of the mix. For instance, when recording a vocal track, there might be subtle background sounds like breathing or ambient noise. An expander can help reduce those noises, allowing the main vocal to shine through more clearly. Creatively, it can be used as an "effect" rather than a dynamic utility for instance to increase the loudness of a snare drum recorded in an overhead microphone channel.
The Pure Expander can help clean up a mix by reducing low-level noise. Additionally, it can create a sense of depth and space in a mix, making each element more distinguishable and thus leading to a more immersive listening experience. Lastly, expanders can also be used creatively to shape the dynamics of individual tracks, adding a unique character to the sound.
Envelope, Time and Detection Settings
As part of the Pure series, FLUX:: Pure Expander is an extremely comprehensive plug-in with all the control you need for normal dynamic processing functionality in any situation.
Experience complete command over Attack, Hold, and Release settings with our extended envelope features, offering Manual, Auto, and Advanced release modes. Achieve immediate dynamics processing with zero attack time by integrating a delay that mirrors the attack time into the signal path.
Explore eight distinct detection modes that interact with your time and envelope settings and the integration times for RMS detection. This includes our unique "Feed Backward" modes, inspired by classic hardware designs, delivering a robust and natural sound. Utilize the Dynamic Factor feature to either amplify or lessen the real-time dynamics information extracted from your audio. Control the pace of changes to the extracted dynamics information with our innovative Dynamic Velocity feature within the FLUX Pure Expander plug-in.
Control over stereo width
Inside Pure Expander, FLUX has introduced a built-in MS encoder/decoder to split your stereo signal into the mono and stereo pieces, allowing you greater control over the stereo compression. The MS width control sets the stereo width of the original where -6dB decreases the width and +6dB increases. Available when operating only in a two-channel capacity, this is ideal for processing entire mixes and masters to enhance or control the stereo spread of transients in your mix.
Individual Multichannel Processing
Experience the power of FLUX Pure Expander's multichannel capabilities. With up to sixteen channels available for simultaneous processing, you can fully customize your surround configuration. Plus, you have the flexibility to disengage processing on any channel, letting the original sound bypass unaltered.
When working on a multi-channel bus, all channels - up to a total of sixteen - are processed by default. However, you have complete control and can choose to disengage processing for any number of channels. This allows the original sound to bypass, leaving the material unprocessed.
And there's more - you can use this feature in conjunction with serial instances. This means you can process the material on any number of channels with individual settings. It's all about giving you maximum control over your sound.
Preset and parameter handling
In the FLUX:: Pure Expander plug-in, Preset and Parameter Handling is designed to optimize workflow efficiency. The plug-in features two Preset/Parameter slots, A and B, which can simultaneously hold two complete sets of parameters. Users can save individual presets as well as a "Global Preset" that encompasses both A and B settings and the position of the "Morphing Slider."
The Morphing Slider enables seamless blending between the parameter settings of slots A and B, offering creative and practical real-time adjustments. By activating the Automation control button, the Morphing Slider becomes accessible for host automation, further enhancing user control and flexibility.
